And needless to say I still have no idea why the hell that woman is popular. I remember that god awful performance she did at the MTV Music Awards and now after watching the entire video for Bad Romance I am more than 100 percent positive that I do not like this chick. I have to give her credit for being original. So in my book she is a step up from Britney Spears and all those other pop clones but to me it is like she is weird just to be weird. And I have no problem with people being weird because hell I am pretty weird myself most of the time. But what draws me to a solo artist is either an amazing voice or great lyrics, especially the lyrics part because that is what makes some one an artist and not just a singer in my eyes. But with Lady Gaga I get neither. I remember some one saying that the Bad Romance video was supposed to be about human trafficking but if I had not read that I would have never been able to figure it out. I know that I am by no means the greatest person in the world when it comes to interrupting an artist message but I am not horrible at it. I am a huge fan of Tori Amos and Björk and some of their songs/videos are not that easy to understand but I am able to get the meaning of them. But after watching the Gaga video I was just completely dumbfounded. So yeah needless to say I do not get the woman nor am I fan of hers. Why did I post this because it has been in my head since last night and I felt getting it out.

I like her, maybe it's 'cause she is so different from all the mainstream bimbos pop stars.

I do have respect for her in that aspect. I think it is great that she is doing it how she wants to and not letting others dictate how she is supposed to be a singer. But there is nothing about her voice or her lyrics that move me and make me like her.

I had the same thing happen with Gnarls Barkley but unlike with Gaga I enjoyed having their songs stuck in my head.

does this make any sense?
There's this friend of a friend of a friend who knelt in front of one of Mark Rothko's paintings in Tate Modern and cried. As an art historian I can definitely appreciate that, but the thing is-she was totally faking it. I know that for a fact. Her best friend told me so. She told her herself. She said she wanted to be special. Everybody says Renoir, or Leonardo or Monet or Manet when asked who is their favotite, she wanted to be different so she went through art books and picked one randomly. It happened to be Mark Rothko.

I guess that's why people like Lady Gaga-she is stange enough to make them feel special, and mainstream enough that everybody knows who she is so that they know how special her fans are.

I'm sorry to say but not everybody knows who Mark Rothko is.

Re: does this make any sense?
It makes sense to me. People can say that she is not "mainstream" because she is not like Britney or Jessica but she is not as off the wall as say Diamanda Galas. And since I do not find her voice or her lyrics to be that great she just does nothing for me.

I have to admit that is kind of lame, the paint story. I can understand being drawn to an artist because they are not that popular but that being the sole reason for liking them is kind of sad I think. Just because I can say I am a fan of Red Grooms or Marcel Duchamp that does not meant that I am some how better then the people who may have never heard of either.

Oh no I totally agree the painting story IS totally lame. And that girl-yeah, she's a pretentious bich anyway. What I meant is, I can appreciate someone crying in front of a beautiful painting. Ya know-the Stendhal syndrome. I cried in front of Michelangelo's David, so yeah.

amen to that

yeah, but sadly there are many people who think just that!
