RANT

Ok I am in a weird mood that has been coming and going for the last almost two years now. I find take the focus off of me in the form of something that causes me to think (normally a rant like this) that I forget about how shitty I am feeling. Normally I bitch and complain about life, but I really do not have anything to complain about I just feel like shit again. So I have turned my focus on to Oz. I do not know how I got on this topic on the way home but I did. So here is my rant. This time it is focusing on season 6 Beecher. So here it goes.

I am a fan of him up until the episode where he gets sent back to prison for violating his parole like an idiot. One of the things that I loved about Beecher was that he tended to take responsibility for his actions, but that went out of the window in season 6. I think that he had every right to be mad at Chris of setting him up but the simple fact is it is all his fault. He was told the drugs were illegal and he chose to get them anyways. I think this was the beginning of the Holier Then Thou Beecher that just annoyed the shit out of me. I think it is kin of interesting of how so many people are so sympathetic to him and think that he is this outstanding guy who just happens to have bad luck. But that is bullshit. The majority of the horrible things that happen to him are his fault. Him getting locked up, him getting sent back, his sons death (that will probably piss of people but I will explain it later). They tend to think of him as this little angel but I disagree. Now I cannot argue that getting sent to a maximum-security prison for his charge was excessive (even the judge said she did not know if she gave him a fare sentence) but it still does not excuse the fact that he was an alcoholic. I cannot say how he when he was drunk because that was never really expressed since the show did very little back story, but from personal experience and that of friends that most cases are abusive whether it be physical, mental, or emotional. I am not going any farther then that because that is just getting to far in to a gray area that there is no real answer for. But what really through me over the top was the "poison" speech and the "every life is precious" one. Both of those are bullshit speeches to try and make Beecher appear more righteous than he really is. I just saw him as a hypocritical liar who only cares about himself once those words left his mouth. Why a liar? That comes from the "poison" speech. When he got out he mentioned that he would not fully grasp it until he was sipping his first martini. Does not really fit well for someone who "gave up alcohol" now does it? Another example was when he admitted to Sister Pete that he was going to turn in Keller for the three murders. He had already said that Keller never flat out said that he killed them. So he was willing to lie about what was said to get out early. Where does the hypocritical part come from? That comes from the every life is precious speech. Even though Beecher has one of the smallest body counts on the show it still does not change the fact that he killed Metzger. Yes that did happen in season three and I agree that Beecher had changed since then. But if he really felt that every life was precious then he would have confessed to the murder because Metzger deserved justice. Another example goes back to the conversation with Sister Pete. Every life is precious that is why he is willing to sell out Keller shows that every life is not important, because he knew Keller would have been put on death row. Now I move on to the fact that he only cares about himself.  And this is why I say that. I agree that there are numerous times earlier in the show where he does thing just to help out others, but that changes in season 6. The fact that he was willing to risk his parole to help out Chris is the first example. People will say that he loved Chris so that is why he did it. I can see that but it does not change the fact that he risked going back to jail (which happened) for it. If someone loves/cares their children and family why would they do that. I don't care how much you love someone there wants should never come before those of your own flesh and blood. This next example goes back to the Sisters Pete conversation as well. He was going to lie about his conversations to get out of prison early and he could have cared less about the affects it would of had on Keller. Oh god and when he admitted to having slept with Hollies teacher. That is how you show you love someone by sleeping with someone else the first chance you get, but this comes as no surprise to anyone with his relationship he had with his Lawyer in season 4 & 5. I am by no means holding Toby to a higher standard then any of the other inmates, but the fact that he gave that bullshit speech before he pushed Keller (not saying that he killed Keller on purpose but that Keller did not kill himself in my opinion) warranted this. Almost forgot about explaining why Gray’s death is his fault. He was trying to be nice and settle things with Schillinger but instead of listening to the guy who knew him the best, Chris, he decided to listen to Makada and Said and find his son. If he had just thought about it for a second he may have realized that Chris knew what the fuck he was talking about and Gary would be alive.

You might be surprised to find there are a lot of people who agree with you.

I would be surprised. The majority of the people I have had the "joy" of talking with about Oz disagree with me. Which I have no problem with because obviously this is my opinion except for the fact that I have never got a decent counter argument.

Actually, that's one of the things I like about Toby. The boy is fucked up. *crazy prag* From what I've heard though Season 6 isn't a good way to measure any of the characters because of the crack smoking monkey that took over the show!

Seasons 1-5 and the first few episodes of 6 I love Beecher. But once he comes back he he has changed and it isn't for the better.
