Ten years ago today.

Matthew Shepard died after being beaten and tied to a fence on the 6th. I was only 12 when it happen but I still remember hearing about it on the news. I remember because that was the day that my view of the world changed. Up until then I had a very naive way at looking at things. In my house we never talked about things like sexuality, religion, politics etc. You know all the things that tend to divide us today in to our little groups. So growing up I looked at the world as equals. It did not matter to me who or what you were; you and I were equals. I had never witnessed any discrimination up until that day, now I know it was going on I just was not aware of it. The fact that someone could be picked up in a bar and then robbed, beaten, and left for dead all because of who they were attracted to was mind blowing to me. After that day my out look on life became very cynical. I still treat every one like an equal and do what I can to try and make it so that everyone is an equal in this country. But the innocent little kid who looked at the world as a place where people could live in harmony was no more. Now he has been replaced with a person who, as much as he likes to hide it, fears not that you may hate him or the people he cares about because of their differences. But will act on that hatred and make us another vicitm. I hope that we may live in a country that everyone can embrace their differences but highly doubts it.

Well I can think of an exception.
Equals sure, unless you're stupid and hateful, then you're not an equal. Hell if you're those things I don't think you should even be allowed to breathe.

Such a sweet woman, such a brave woman.
Thank you for having the video.
My son, Hunter, died of AIDS in 1991 when he was 25. The pharmacy I went to with a script for AZT, when he was first diagnosed, would not fill it unless I gave them $1,000 and then get reimbursed by my insurance company. When I reported this to my insurance company, that I work for, they pulled their relationship with that pharmacy and had the medicine delivered to my home. That pharmacy subsequently closed.
